GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy failed to win a majority of votes for Speaker of the House following three rounds of voting in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. McCarthy lost 20 Republicans on the third try, after the House was forced to go to multiple rounds of voting for the first time in 100 years. Members adjourned without electing a speaker on Tuesday and were scheduled to reconvene Wednesday.
